Fourth Degree

                            January / February 2018 Newsletter

On behalf of the Officers of the Assembly, I’d like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year, and hope you had a very Holy and Merry Christmas.  It is a very special time of the year and I hope the New Year will bring you and your family much happiness and good health.

We had two very successful events during December.  At the Fourth Degree Exemplification held on December 10th at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Cherry Hill, we had 22 new members added to our Assembly.  We welcome these new Sir Knights and their Ladies and hope they will enjoy being members of our Assembly and the Fourth Degree.  I thank everyone who came out to offer assistance, including the Color Corps members who participated in the Degree, and especially our Color Corps Commander Sir Knight Jim Bonn and Lady Shari who set up a hospitality room in their hotel room.  A very nice dinner was held after the Exemplification with all of our State Officers in attendance.

To top off the dinner, our Assembly was awarded the “Star Assembly Award” for the 2016-2017 Columbian Year, and I was very proud to accept the award for Past Faithful Navigator John Sherry who achieved this very high honor during his term as Navigator.  This award is given for achievements in Civic Activities, Patriotic Programs and Membership Growth.  We were one of only four Assemblies in our District to achieve this and we should all be very proud of it.

Also in December, our Annual Advent Party was held on December 13th.  It was a great success and everyone had a good time.  Thank you to Faithful Captain Butch Paramore for handling all the arrangements for the party.  See Butch’s comments below.

We are in the process of compiling data for the Annual Survey of Fraternal Activity which is due at the end of January.  This survey covers the period January-December 2017.  We need your input for the number of times or the number of hours you contributed (as a 4th Degree Knight of our Assembly and not as a member of your Council) in the following categories: Number of visits to sick; Number of visits to bereaved; Number of blood donations; Estimated hours of volunteer service to any of the following:  Church, Community, Youth, Habitat for Humanity, Culture of Life, Food for Families, Special Olympics, or Miscellaneous.  You can email this information to me, or use regular mail, and I thank you very much in advance for this important input.

See the “Important Dates to Remember” section below for upcoming events.  I look forward to seeing you at our Monthly Business Meetings on the second Wednesday of each month, as well as other special events as they come up.  Our next Business Meeting is Wednesday, January 10, 2018.

Vivat Jesus!

S.K.  Louis J. Spadaccino, Faithful Navigator

Worthy Sir Knights,

As we are now in one of the most holiest times of the year, let us not forget the true meaning of Christmas.  I would like to take this opportunity to wish each and every one of you a very Merry Christmas, a Prosperous New Year, and remembering those loving members of our family on Valentine Day.

I would also like to thank my Brother Knights and their families for help making our Advent Party a success.  In addition to our regular monthly meetings, please take a moment to mark your calendars for our next upcoming important event, Wednesday, March 14, 2018.  That is when we honor our future priests at our annual Seminarian Dinner, and is when we make our annual donation to them.  Please see the attached flyer for additional information.

The Seminarian Dinner is being held in place of our Assembly Business Meeting.  Therefore, the next Business Meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 11, 2018.  If you will be attending the Seminarian Dinner, please use the attached flyer to make your dinner reservation and send it to me.  Since this a special dinner with a special menu, the cost will be $25.

Please also make every effort to attend committee meetings that you may be a part of.  There is a reason that our Assembly turns heads and is well known throughout the State and it is because of you.  Thank you in advance for your continued support.

S.K.  Sylvester Paramore, Faithful Captain

Once again congratulations to our new Sir Knights who joined our Assembly in December!

S.K. John M. Sherry, PFN, Faithful Admiral

                                             COLOR CORPS REPORT

Brothers, please notify the Faithful Navigator and Color Corps Commander when a Sir Knight from your Council passes away.  It’s important that we get information for viewings as quickly as possible for our members’ benefit and for the family we are supporting.  By the time we read an obituary in the newspaper, it may be less than 24 hours of notice.  Please help us during these very trying times for the families of our departed Brother Sir Knights.

Color Corps Support:  Please notify the Faithful Navigator and Color Corps Commander as soon as the need is identified.  We DO NOT invite ourselves to your Church/event.  We attend Masses at local Parishes when the Bishop is present or for other special events.  We attend viewings of Sir Knights.  We attend viewing and funerals of Past Faithful Navigators and Color Corps members in recognition of their special service to the Assembly.  We also support the Rosary Rallies and Charity Ball.  Other events by request.  When the Color Corps comes to your Parish or local Council member’s viewing, we will ask all Fourth Degree members from your Council to join us to give a more personal presence to the event.

The Color Corps is always looking for new members.  Please contact S.K. Jim Bonn for more information.

Our current Color Corps Event Schedule is listed below.  If you are a member of the Color Corps, please try to attend as many of these events that you can.
